Mine by A.N. Senerella

I was given an ARC by the publisher and I had no idea what it was about. The cover while great also did not help. I assumed it was YA based on the cover. I was hooked from the very beginning. I had to force myself to turn off the iPad and go to sleep it was so good. The characters are typical YA characters but the author makes you love them so much. The main character, Anika, was likable and relate-able all at the same time. And I was so happy that she was neither whiny or entitled or overly pessimistic. The 3 boys I actually felt sorry for. All of them were so lost as to what to do to that it was comical. Brady, the popular guy as always is clueless when it comes to what girls actually want and Foster, the shy stalkerish guy was over confident in what he thinks girls want. The nerd, Mitchell, well I sniffed out his deceit early, he was just clueless. Sierra, the bestie, was mostly absent from the story since she wasn’t really needed. As the story unfolded we got to see different facets of each character. The way the author had each character recount their histories together was refreshing. I was so happy not to get a whole chapter of flashback or a weird elementary school days chapter. I was glad that it took Anika a while to warm of to the idea of Brady and Foster and she didn’t just jump right in to a relationship with either of them. The only thing that got me was that I was sure this was Anika’s story and it isn’t. The story is told from Anika’s, Brady’s and Foster’s points of view, but it is clearly Foster’s story. It is rather strange to get a YA romance story told from the boy’s point of view. some of the themes in the book were a little mature for a typical YA romance, stalking, privacy invasion, drugging someone, and violence. But the fact is that regular kids have to deal with those things also. I was happy with the ending and would love a sequel. I really want to know if Brady and Sierra get together and if the military works out for Brady. Also I want to know if Foster and Anika get married after college.
